Three dead, one injured as southwest monsoon lashes Gujarat across 6 talukas | Ahmedabad News

Strong southwest monsoon in Gujarat killed a farmer and two farm labourers and injured one in a lightning strike in Jamnagar district of Saurashtra on Tuesday.

District disaster management officials identified the farmer as Kiritsinha Zala (55) of Butavadar village in Jamjodhpur. One of the two deceased farm workers was Magan Bhuriya (30), a migrant worker working at Devshi Dangar farm in Narmana village.

The third death was reported from Dodhiya village near Jamnagar town, the victim being Nemisha Pingal (30), another agricultural labourer.

The injured worker was identified as Alpesh Kateshiya (18), a control room officer said. Kateshiya worked with Pingal at Jaysinh Mori farm and was rushed to hospital after being struck by lightning, the officer said.

Six talukas of Jamnagar district reported moderate rainfall in 24 hours ending at 6 am on Wednesday. Jamjodhpur taluka reported 44 millimetres (25 mm equals one inch) of rainfall during the period, while Lalpur received 39 mm, Jodiya 32 mm, Jamnagar 21 mm, Dhorl 18 mm and Kalavad measured 14 mm of rainfall.

Incidentally, 11 districts of Saurashtra region and many other parts of Gujarat received heavy rainfall on Tuesday.
