A senior official said district officials had arrived at the scene and the cause of the bridge collapse was being investigated.

“It could be a small bridge or a causeway. District officials have gone to the spot. We are trying to gather more information about the incident,” said additional collector (Saharsa) Jyoti Kumar.

Authorities said there were no reports of any deaths or injuries in the incident.

Over the past month, Bihar has witnessed a series of horrific incidents of bridge collapses in various districts of the state, including Siwan, Saran, Madhubani, Araria, East Champaran and Kishanganj.

Following the bridge collapse incidents, the Bihar government has suspended at least 15 engineers and ordered an inquiry to ascertain the reasons behind the incidents.

Last week, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ordered officials to survey all old bridges in the state and identify those that require immediate repair.

Bridge-related mishaps, including sudden collapses, are common in Bihar as many such structures, both large and small, built over rivers and other water bodies have collapsed repeatedly, especially in recent years.

Frequent building collapses have raised questions about the quality of public works in the state, although no deaths have been reported in these incidents.
