BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, MI. – Here’s everything we know about the Washtenaw County plane crash that killed a flight instructor and seriously injured his student.

Airplane disaster

A small plane crashed on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 1:13 p.m., in the area of ​​Michigan Avenue and Lima Center Road in Bridgewater Township, Washtenaw County.

Police say people along the highway did everything they could to help after witnessing the crash.

Disaster scene

The accident occurred in a large field and officials from several different departments were called, including Washtenaw County deputies and Huron Valley Emergency Medical Services officials.

Aerial footage shows that the front of the plane was severely damaged and one of the wings was broken.

One person had to be rescued from the wreckage.

The flight instructor was killed

Michigan State Police said the crash victim was a flight instructor.

The man was identified as a 46-year-old Dearborn man.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Student injured

The only person on board the plane at the time of the crash was an aviation student.

Officials said the 22-year-old from North Carolina is attending the University of Michigan.

He was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor and is in critical condition.

Investigation

No official details about the causes of the disaster have been provided yet.

Michigan State Police took over the initial investigation into the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board also are involved in the investigation.
