Dalit woman repeatedly raped in Bhadohi UP gets pregnant

Bhadohi (UP): On Tuesday, police said a 17-year-old Dalit girl became pregnant after being repeatedly raped by a man in a village under the jurisdiction of Suriyawa police station.

SHO Ram Nagina Yadav said police arrested 26-year-old Raju Gupta, a resident of Dudwa Dharmapuri, on charges of rape on Tuesday.

The SHO said Gupta came in contact with the girl’s family while working in an agricultural field using a paddy thresher.

He started visiting a Dalit family and when no one was home, he raped a 17-year-old girl, Yadav said.

When the family noticed changes in the girl’s body, they took her to the hospital on June 8, where doctors confirmed that she was pregnant, he added.

When asked about the pregnancy, the girl told her family that Gupta raped her every time they were away.

On Sunday, the girl’s father went to the Suriyawa police station with the girl and lodged a complaint against Raju Gupta, the SHO said.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against Gupta on charges of rape, IPC intimidation, SC/ST Act and POCSO.

Yadav said that based on the victim’s statement, raids were carried out and Gupta was caught near Suriyawa railway station.
