FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) – Indiana reporter Vinny Martorano was attacked by an exotic bird while reporting on the theft of birds from an aviary. The event was recorded on camera.

Nine birds were stolen from an aviary in Frankfurt over the weekend. According to Frankfort Parks Superintendent Joel Tatum, someone cut a square hole in the net and stole the birds.

“They are like our animals. This is so terrible. This aviary has been here for 32 years and this is the first time something like this has happened,” Tatum said.

According to the Frankfort Police Department, the birds are worth approximately $30,000. In total, 4 macaws, 3 Amazon parrots, an African ring-necked parrot and an African gray parrot were stolen.

“I believe it was a theft to sell the birds and make money. This is our priority at this time,” said Chief Scott Shoemaker of FPD.
