Former policeman accused of rape

A former Kent Police officer has been charged with rape, sexual assault and inappropriate conduct in a public office.

Kent Police said Jamie Woodhams, 51, from Ashford, is charged with six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

He was also charged with three counts of misconduct in public office, relating to alleged relationships with women he met while performing his official duties.

Woodhams is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 27.

A spokesman for Kent Police said detectives began investigating Mr Woodhams following a report made to police in October 2022.

The charges relate to offenses committed against two women in Kent and elsewhere between 2006 and 2022.

Woodhams retired from service in April 2022.
