Four American instructors from Cornell College were injured in a stabbing attack in Beishan Park in Jilin, China, on the morning of Monday, June 10.

According to NBC News, Chinese police confirmed that a suspect has been arrested and the victims are receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

“The Cornell Community. “We have learned that four Cornell instructors teaching in a partnership with a university in China were injured in a serious accident during a day visit to a public park accompanied by an employee of the partner university,” the statement read. obtained by PEOPLE at Cornell College.

PEOPLE contacted China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for comment on the incident, but did not receive an immediate response.

According to CNN, police arrested and identified the suspect as a 55-year-old man surnamed Cui.

“Cui was walking in Beishan Park when he collided with a foreigner, and then stabbed the foreigner and three other foreigners, as well as a Chinese tourist who tried to stop him,” Jilin city police said in a statement on social media translated by Reuters. .

CNN reported that the instructors participated in a partnership program with Beihua University in Jilin in northeastern China.

Videos and photos shared on social media show a woman and two men lying on the ground in the park. In the photo, one of the men was covered in blood.

Meanwhile, Iowa state Rep. Adam Zabner confirmed to CNN that his brother David Zabner was one of four instructors who were attacked.

“I’m just extremely grateful that my brother is OK and that he survived the attack,” he said of his brother, who was on his second visit to China with Cornell. “My family’s hope is for my brother to return home as soon as possible and ensure his health. We really just want to thank the U.S. Department of State for all their assistance, as well as our federal delegation from Iowa who were especially helpful.”

He added that his brother “is feeling fine” and “has been stitched up and appears to be recovering.”
