Man from York Co. arrested on charges of soliciting children

YORK COUNTY, SC (WBTV) – A York County man was arrested and charged with child solicitation last week, officials say.

The SC Attorney General’s Office said Edward Todd Baines, 48, was arrested Friday after he allegedly solicited sex from a minor and sent sexually explicit photos.

Baines was charged with eight counts of criminal solicitation of a minor and two counts of attempting to disseminate obscene material to persons under 18 years of age. Both cases are felonies and each is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Several agencies were involved in the investigation, including the York County Sheriff’s Office, Chester County Sheriff’s Office, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) and others. Mount Pleasant Police made an arrest.

Jail records show Baines received a $130,000 bond and was released.

The case is being handled by the General Prosecutor’s Office.
