MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The state of Colorado has released its second forecast for the 2024 hurricane season.

The latest forecast remains in line with the original forecast published in April. Colorado calls for 23 named storms, 11 hurricanes, and 5 major hurricanes.

Colorado saw 23 named storms, 11 hurricanes and five major hurricanes in April, making this the most aggressive forecast on record.

An average hurricane season typically features 14 named storms, seven hurricanes, three of which are Category 3 or higher.

The combination of record warm Atlantic water temperatures and the approaching La Nina weather system led to the highest numbers on record.

The US hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with a peak on September 10. Here is the list of names for the 2024 hurricane season.
