Man in his 20s arrested and garda patrol slashed tires following ‘public order incident’ in Tipperary

A man in his 20s has been arrested and a Garda car has its tires punctured during a ‘public order incident’ at a construction site in Tipperary.

The incident occurred at the entrance to a construction site in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary on Tuesday, June 11.

The arrested man is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the Co Tipperary area.

A Garda patrol car was also damaged at the scene this afternoon and its tires were slashed.

“An Garda Síochána respects the right of citizens to exercise their constitutional rights; “this right does not cover breaches of criminal law, interference with the rights of other citizens to carry out everyday activities or attacks on members of An Garda Síochána,” the Gardaí said in a statement.

“Any Garda action in relation to developing events involves a graduated police response, taking into account relevant legislation and public safety, with enforcement as a last resort.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
