Mean! A policeman accused of raping a woman in custody

A police officer remains in custody at the Belize Central Prison this evening after being accused of raping a woman detained at the Queen Street Police Station on Friday. According to reports, this is the heinous act of forty-five-year-old Derwin Marin. The policeman was on duty but had no interest in contacting the woman. At one point, PC Marin allegedly approached her and offered to release her without charge in exchange for sex. He then took the woman out of her cell and walked her to another area of the station, where he apparently had intercourse with her. Following the incident, the Belize Police Department immediately took action against the rogue officer. A criminal and internal investigation is ongoing, and the police commissioner condemned Marin’s actions. This morning, ComPol Williams appeared before the lower courts for Marin’s arraignment, where he opposed bail. This is the second time in as many weeks that a top cop has donned a lawyer’s hat to take up a case.

Chester Williams, Police Commissioner

“I basically appeared in court this morning to present an indictment against a police officer accused of a rape that occurred at Queen Street Police Station over the weekend.”

Reporter

“You opposed bail.”

Chester Williams

“Yes, I opposed bail because we believe the police officer should remain in prison pending the outcome of the case.”

Reporter

“This is a fairly mundane and simple accusation. Why did you feel it was important for me to involve your office in this?

Chester Williams

– Well, I think it’s a need to show the importance of the matter. As I said earlier, we are committed to getting rid of these rogue officers who continually do things that embarrass the department. My presence here is a strong confirmation that we are doing everything we can to ensure that those harmed by police actions receive justice. The victim was a prisoner in police custody. An investigation revealed that a police officer solicited her for sex in exchange for her release. He then took her outside the cell block where the act took place. We have secured several statements as well as video recordings confirming her allegations.”

Reporter

“Was he aware of the security cameras?”

Chester Williams

“Well he must be aware of that, every policeman working in that area of the block knows there are cameras there.”

Reporter

“Yes, but did he go to a hidden area or somewhere out of sight?”

Chester Williams

“Well, the cameras wouldn’t have caught the act itself, but the camera caught her when he took her out of her cell and took her to the place where the alleged rape took place.”
