Randolph County deputy says Asheboro man charged with assault

Officers tell us it happened just before midnight on ELSA DRIVE. THIS IS RIGHT BEHIND THE TARGET WHICH IS AT THE UNIVERSITY. THEIR LAW SERVICES WERE CALLED IN CONNECTION WITH THE SHOOTING. FIND 37-YEAR-OLD RASHAD. AKEEM SIMS SHOOTED SEVERAL TIMES AT THE SITE. SIMS WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE HE LATER DIED. WINSTON-SALEM POLICE SAY SIMS AND THE SUSPECT IN THIS CASE KNOW EACH OTHER, BUT HAVE PROVIDED NO INFORMATION ABOUT THE SUSPECT. THEY SAY THERE IS NO CURRENT RISK TO THE COMMUNITY. THE UNCG BUILDING WILL BE CONSTRUCTED THIS WEEK AS LEADERS PREPARE FOR THE NEW SPACE. THE UNIVERSITY SAYS DEMOLITION OF THE BUILDING AT 900 WEST GATE CITY BOULEVARD WILL START TOMORROW. CREWS ARE REPLACING IT WITH THE NEW UNCG CREATIVE PRACTICE CENTER. THE OPENING OF THE ACADEMIC BUILDING IS EXPECTED FOR THE AUTUMN OF NEXT YEAR. SCHOOL PRINCIPALS SAY IT WILL BE DESIGNED TO USE TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING, RESEARCH AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT. SOME TRIAD TEACHERS ARE ASKING FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDS IN THEIR BUDGET. THE FORSYTH COUNTY EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION AND THEIR SUPPORTERS HELD A RALLY AT MARSHALL PARK LAST NIGHT BEFORE THE MARCH FOR THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS’ HEARING. GROUP URGES COMMISSIONERS TO APPROVE A $20 MILLION ADDITIONAL BUDGET REQUEST FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. THEY SAY THE MONEY WILL GO TO ADDING MORE SOCIAL WORKERS AND NURSES, RESTORING MASTER’S SALARY AND EMPLOYEE RAISES. COMMISSIONERS

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said a man is accused of injuring a woman in Asheboro. Deputies responded to a threat call on McMasters Street in Asheboro on June 8. There, they met with the victim, who reported that Lemmuel Artemus Hill had attacked him. The victim also said Hill damaged his phone when they tried to call 911. Deputies said the victim had visible signs of assault. Get the latest news According to a report from Randolph County deputies, the victim was eventually able to escape and call for help. Hill left the scene in his vehicle before law enforcement arrived. After investigating and collecting evidence, authorities charged Hill with assault by strangulation, misdemeanor assault on a female, and misdemeanor charges of interfering with emergency communications. On June 10, authorities found Hill. They arrested him and booked him into the Randolph County Detention Center. The judge denied Hill’s bond because the charges were domestic in nature.
