Injury to American teachers in China Isolated case: spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Beijing, June 11 (IANS): The recent case of injuries sustained by foreign U.S. teachers in China was an isolated incident that will not affect normal people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on Tuesday.

Lin shared the remarks during a regular news conference while answering questions about the incident, Xinhua news agency reported.

Four foreign teachers from Beihua University in the city of Jilin in northeastern China’s Jilin Province were attacked while visiting Beishan Park on the morning of June 10, according to a spokesman. All the injured were taken to hospital and received appropriate medical assistance. None of them are in critical condition.

“The police’s initial assessment shows that this is an isolated incident. Further investigation is still ongoing,” Lin said.

Lin said that more people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and the United States serve the interests of both sides and are supported and welcomed by people from different backgrounds in both countries.

Noting that China is widely considered one of the safest countries in the world, Lin said there are effective measures in place to protect the safety of all foreigners in China.

“This isolated incident will not affect normal people-to-people exchanges between China and the United States,” the spokesman said.
