Governor Otti suspends Abia Health Commissioner

Announcement

Abia State Governor Alex Otti on Tuesday suspended the state Commissioner for Health, Ngozi Okoronkwo from office over gross misconduct.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Okey Kanu, made this known in a statement made available to journalists in the state capital, Umuahia, on Tuesday.

“The suspension is intended to pave the way for an investigation into allegations of gross misconduct made against the commissioner,” the statement explained.

It said the suspension was in line with its policy of zero tolerance for any type of misconduct and strict adherence to the twin principles of transparency and accountability in governance.

The statement further said that the measure was intended to ensure that the actions of government appointees must always be for the welfare and well-being of the citizens of the state.

The statement maintained that the government attaches importance to good governance and the rule of law, under which individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

“As a result, the Administration diligently investigates and establishes facts regarding violations or misconduct detected by its internal monitoring and feedback system.”

He, therefore, directed the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Ifeyinwa Kalu, to engage with the Governor’s Special Adviser on Health, Ngozi Azodo, to run the ministry until further investigation into the allegations is completed
