PALACE OF VERSAilles reopens after fire alarm

PARIS, June 11 (Bernama-Xinhua) — The Palace of Versailles has reopened after a fire alert triggered a temporary evacuation on Tuesday afternoon, a French tourism website announced on social network X, Xinhua reported.

“The incident was quickly brought under control and the population was evacuated as part of safety measures. The palace and gardens are now open,” announced the Palace of Versailles. However, she did not provide further details of the incident.

According to the French daily, a “very important” firefighter operation was underway at the site since the afternoon Le Figaro. Several videos on social media showed smoke billowing from the palace as guests were being evacuated.

The former royal residence, one of France’s national treasures, welcomes millions of tourists every year. The park in Versailles is scheduled to host equestrian and modern pentathlon events during the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.
