Teenager charged with first-degree murder after shooting in Kannapolis

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Authorities confirmed Tuesday that a teenager has been charged with first-degree murder following a shooting in Kannapolis.

On Monday, June 10, around 8:45 p.m., police responded to a home at 1903 Lane Street. When they arrived it was one person after an argument with several people.


Officials said 43-year-old Ebony Gill was a resident of that address and died at the scene from a gunshot wound.

Jawaren Smith, 18, was booked into the Cabarrus County Jail for first-degree murder. Authorities say he was apprehended with the help of area residents who saw him trying to flee the scene.
