Noodles cited over nine major allergens; receives FDA’s highest warning – Boston 25 News

According to the recall, the FDA has identified nine allergens that have not been declared and could prove fatal to consumers with allergies, the agency said in an update this week in which it classified the recall as a “Class I” risk level.

This category is reserved for the most serious cases and is used “when there is a reasonable likelihood that use of or exposure to the offending product will result in serious adverse health consequences or death.”

The items affected by the recall are:

• Year 2023: Lot codes 1623129 – 1623365
• Year 2024: Lot codes 1624001 – 1624129

According to the FDA, there are no known reports of consumers getting sick after eating pasta.

Sun Noodle, which produces the noodles, released a statement following the recall saying: “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or concern this may cause and assure our customers that we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and quality of our products.” “

The FDA says allergens in cup noodles include eggs, wheat, peanuts, shellfish, milk, fish, soy, sesame and tree nuts.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, allergy sufferers may experience a range of symptoms that vary in severity, such as a swollen tongue, hives or vomiting.

The CDC warns that in extreme cases, people with pasta allergies may experience an anaphylactic reaction that can lead to death.
