The mayor and police say four people were shot at a food court in downtown Atlanta

Atlanta (CNN) — The city’s mayor said Tuesday afternoon that four people were shot in the food court of an office complex in downtown Atlanta, adding that the building Is now in lockdown.

“Avoid this area” – Mayor Andre Dickens he said.

In a series of posts on X, city police confirmed that four people had been shot at Peachtree Center, adding that all were “conscious, alert and breathing.”

Police believe one of the four is the suspect he said.

Peachtree Center, in the heart of downtown, offers more than “1.5 million square feet” of office space in four buildings, as well as 50 restaurants and retail stores and three hotels, according to its website.

Atlanta Police, Atlanta Fire Department and other law enforcement officials are “actively working on the scene,” police said.

“When the scene is clear, we will notify you again,” police added.
