Armed robbery suspect arrested after police chase – reports CMPD – WSOC TV

CHARLOTTE – Authorities said a man accused of armed robbery was arrested Tuesday in northwest Charlotte after leading a police chase.

On Tuesday around noon, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department found a car whose driver had been charged with armed robbery just minutes earlier. The robbery was reported on North Graham Street near Sugar Creek Road.

CMPD says officers attempted to stop the suspect, but he sped off. He led officers on a chase and even crashed into another car around 12:15 a.m. at Hoskins Road and Rozzelles Ferry Road.

The accident did not stop the suspect, who continued to try to escape the police. The pursuit ended minutes later with the suspect’s arrest at Interstate 85 and Brookshire Boulevard, police said.

The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Robert Vaughn, was arrested. He faces charges of armed robbery, fleeing to avoid a crime, and battery and escape.

Vaughn was also wanted on several charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon.

The victim whose car was struck was taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening, CMPD added.

No further information was provided.
