Vt. man accused of aggravated sexual assault

BENNINGTON, Va. (WCAX) – Police say a Vermont man wanted by police for aggravated sexual assault, including sexual assault of a minor, has been arrested.

Vermont State Police say an arrest warrant was issued in April for James Gathright Jr., 56, of the Rutland and Bennington areas.

Police say Gathright is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Bennington in 2023 and sexually assaulting a young woman days later.

Gathright was arrested Monday in Manchester, N.H., by the U.S. Marshals Service and is awaiting extradition to Vermont.
