A 15-year-old died in an ATV crash north of Kamloops

A young teenager was killed in a quad bike accident north of Kamloops on Sunday (June 9). This is the second such fatality reported in the province in the last week.

Barriere RCMP say the 15-year-old boy involved in Sunday’s crash was driving on a forest road about 90 kilometers north of Kamloops when he lost control of his vehicle. The off-road vehicle overturned and the teenager was seriously injured. The passenger who was traveling with him suffered minor injuries.

RCMP arrived at the scene of the crash, near the 2-kilometer marker of the forestry service road, at 4:30 p.m. to find paramedics and bystanders working on the crash victims. Despite the efforts made, the 15-year-old died from his injuries.

RCMP say preliminary evidence suggests the teen was not wearing a seat belt.

“This tragic event has had a significant impact on all communities surrounding Barriere,” Corp said. Kyle Camalush in a statement on Tuesday (June 11).

The crash comes just five days after another quad bike fatality on a forest service road near Agassiz. RCMP discovered two men on an embankment off the East Harrison Forest Service Road on June 4 around 10:40 p.m. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
