A police inspector suspended from his duties for failing to prevent the murder of a historian

A police inspector in Korukkupet has been suspended for failing to prevent a clash between two historians on Monday, which resulted in the murder of one of them.

The city police said that R.Yuvaraj, police inspector of Korukkupet police station, did not take adequate precautions despite being informed in advance about the conflict between two groups led by two historical historians in the Korukkupet police station premises.

The deceased was identified as Dinesh alias ‘Sweet’ Dinesh, 24, of Rettaikuzhi Road in Tondiarpet. He had criminal cases against him. Police arrested four people involved in the murder and launched a search to trace two more suspects.

He was drinking alcohol at a bar attached to Tasmac on Ekambaram Road in Korukkupet on Monday afternoon when a gang, including ‘Biscuit’ Santhosh, tried to attack him with knives. Although he managed to escape, the gang chased and murdered him.

Dinesh was rushed to the Stanley Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In September last year, Dinesh attacked 22-year-old Santhosh from Korukkupet over previous hostility. In retaliation, Santhosh and his gang hacked Dinesh to death.
