Salem/Keizer–On Monday evening, June 10, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a serious car accident occurred at the intersection of River Road and Broadway Street on the Salem-Keiser city limits, next to Elegant Catering.

The same intersection is the same as previously reported by Keizertimes due to the Salem-Keizer welcome sign being smashed due to poor drivers at least three times in as many years, but according to Keizer city staff, this intersection has been a problem for decades.

The three vehicles, a gold Chevy Trailblazer, a green Dodge 4×4 pickup truck and some type of Nissan SUV that was lying on its side, were too mangled to be properly identified.

The Chevy suffered significant damage to the rear and driver’s side and was facing south on Broadway.

The Dodge appeared to have a shattered windshield and extensive front-end damage and was facing north on Broadway Street at the intersection with N Stark Street.

The third vehicle was crushed from above in the middle of the car and was also severely damaged in all other areas of the vehicle.

Upon arriving at the scene, Keizertimes spoke with Jessica Connolly, an insurance agent with Santana Insurance in Keizer and a witness to the incident.

While heading south on Broadway Street, Jessica stated she heard a “crunch” and when she looked in her rearview mirror, she saw a most damaged Nissan-like vehicle in the air.

The vehicle struck a green Dodge pickup truck, where it eventually came to rest facing southbound on Broadway Street at the intersection with River Road.

Jessica noted that although she did not see the initial collision, she knew it was with the Gold Pioneer because she witnessed the end of the accident with a green Dodge pickup truck.

The driver of the gold Nissan was extricated from under the vehicle and transported by emergency medical services for treatment.

At this time, Salem police have not released any information about the driver of the Nissan-like vehicle, including his name or social status.
