Police say a worker died in a construction accident at a New Jersey metal polishing company

An employee of a Middlesex County metal polishing company was killed in an accident involving a forklift on Tuesday morning, police said.

According to a statement from the Middlesex Police Department, officers were called to Diamond Brite Metals on Cedar Avenue in Middlesex at 7:17 a.m. and found Jimmy Fernando Parrales Mora, 46, of North Plainfield, unresponsive.

Mora was pronounced dead at the scene. The department said that while he was working, a metal beam fell from him and hit him.

“The forklift was transporting the beam and (Mora) helped drive it,” Sgt. Middlesex Borough Police Detective. Sean Flanagan told NJ Advance Media. “The strap holding the beam then broke, at which point the beam fell and hit (Mora).”

Police say the incident remains under investigation and the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration will provide assistance.
