An immigrant accused of raping a 13-year-old admits that he recorded the attack

According to the New York Post, an Ecuadorian migrant accused of raping a 13-year-old admitted to recording the incident during a court hearing in Queens, New York.

Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, 25, was arraigned on multiple charges, including rape and kidnapping, after attacking a 13-year-old girl in Kissena Park. According to the New York Post, the June 13 incident came to light during a hearing during which Inga-Landi’s videotaped testimony was presented, which showed that he recorded the attack after initially being upset.

“I was nervous at first, but then I calmed down and recorded it,” Inga-Landi admitted in a videotaped statement, the outlet reported.

Inga-Landi remained silent and dejected as prosecutors detailed the charges against him. Inga-Landi encountered two teenagers in a park and allegedly escalated the assault with a machete-like knife, according to Assistant District Attorney Kasey Esposito, the New York Post reported. He allegedly tied the victims with a shoelace, gagged the girl and began raping her. After the robbery, he allegedly stole their phones and threw them away before buying drugs.

“Then I went to buy drugs,” he said, according to the website.

The case has drawn attention due to the heinous nature of the crime and Inga-Landi’s past, including a prior order from an immigration judge in 2022 requiring her to leave the United States after being deemed an inadmissible alien. According to the website, his history and the brutal nature of the crime prompted Judge Joanne B. Watters to order him held without bail, citing a flight risk. According to the New York Post, key to the investigation was DNA evidence linking Inga-Landi to the scene, matching a sample he provided to immigration authorities in 2021. Additional details provided by the teenage victims, including a description of a distinctive boar tattoo and braces, played a key role in his identification and subsequent capture by residents, ending a five-day manhunt.
