A 23-year-old Bridgewater man died in a car crash in Middleborough

Police say a 23-year-old Bridgewater man was killed Monday morning when his car struck a tree and then plunged into a swamp in Middleborough before throwing him into a small creek.

The unidentified man was the only person inside a white 2015 GMC pickup truck, Middleborough Police Chief Joseph Perkins said.

The accident was reported to the police on Monday around 11:41 am. When officers arrived in the area of Fuller Street near the border of Halifax and Middleborough on Monday morning, they found that the truck had struck a tree and overturned into the marshy water, Perkins said. The man was thrown into the water in a small stream near the road.

Middleborough Fire Department divers attempted to rescue the man from the water, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe the man was driving at a high rate of speed before the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by Middleborough police and state police assigned to Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz’s office.
