Draisaitl faces no suspension after Oilers superstar’s hit on Barkov

The noise you’re hearing from Edmonton Oilers fans this afternoon is a sigh of relief as Leon Draisaitl has avoided suspension.

The NHL announced that Oilers forward Sam Carrick was fined for hitting below the belt. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, this is the only additional discipline that will appear in Monday’s game.

Draisaitl won’t miss any action after a hit to the head by Aleksander Barkov in Game 2 sent the Florida Panthers star center to the locker room. Many speculated that Draisaitl would likely be suspended if Barkov had to miss games. Perhaps today’s decision indicates that Barkov will indeed suit up for the third game.

The series now moves to Edmonton, where the Panthers lead the series 2-0. The Oilers will be desperate to win on Thursday.
