YouTuber Saad Ahmed, 24, was shot dead by a security guard in Pakistan last week while filming a vlog about the India-Pakistan cricket match during the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Ahmed was recording the content of his vlog at Karachi’s bustling Serena mobile market on June 4 when he was fatally attacked, Pakistani channel Geo TV reported.

Eyewitnesses report that in preparation for the match, Ahmed talked to shopkeepers about the cricket match. India vs Pakistan match in New York Volhis hearing is scheduled for June 9. He then approached the security guard, identified as Gul Hassan, to be included in the video. However, the situation escalated rapidly when Hassan opened fire on Ahmed.

CCTV footage that has since circulated on social media shows a security guard approaching Ahmed and then shooting him. Ahmed was seen being hit in the shoulder, causing him to fall to the ground as passersby rushed to help him.

Police officers quickly arrived at the scene and with the help of rescue teams shifted the injured Ahmed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Despite their efforts, Ahmed was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The authorities detained the security guard and confiscated his weapon. In his statement to the police, Hassan stated that Ahmed’s gestures during the filming provoked him, which led to the shooting. Police noted that Hassan, who hails from Waziristan, struggled with the Urdu language.

A first information report (FIR) was lodged at Taimuria police station based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Mukhtiar Ahmed. The FIR names the security guard, the security company and the Mobile Market Administration, alleging negligence despite prior consent for the video shoot.
